Narrative Assessment Protocol
The Narrative Assessment Protocol (NAP) was developed as part of a federally funded grant from the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences. The goal of the NAP was to develop a comprehensive and brief assessment of young children's overall language skills, which is now available to early childhood professions for free on the web. NAP also is special in that it is geared to children between the ages of 3 and 6, which is an age group that is currently under-served in the area of narrative language assessment. In order to create this assessment, we collected and analyzed hundreds of children's language samples, in the form of narratives, or stories.
